Thomas is a renowned German economics and finance expert. He presently is Founding Director of Flossbach von Storch Research Institute after dividing his time between academic research at the Goethe University and an advisory role to the senior management at Deutsche Bank. Until 2012 he was Chief Economist at Deutsche Bank and Head of DB Research in Frankfurt preceded by seven years as Chief European Economist in London and co-head of the Bank's Global Economics Group at Deutsche Bank Markets Research. As the financial crisis unfolded Thomas' reputation for prediction put him greatly in demand as a commentator in the international media. Thomas speaks on topics involving economic thinking and practice, the sovereign debt crisis and the problems facing the euro. Thomas has recently published his first book Europe's Unfinished Currency: the Political Economics of the Euro which looks at the historical background of European monetary union, its current peril and proposes clear strategies for its rescue. Thomas previously worked for Goldman Sachs in Frankfurt and London from 1991-2002. Before moving to the private sector, he held positions at the IMF in Washington from 1983-90 and at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy from 1978-82. He has published numerous articles on international and European economic issues.
