Nikolaus Blome is one of Germany's most distinguished journalists. Since September 2020, he has been Head of Politics and Society in the central editorial department of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and online columnist for the news magazine Der Spiegel. After graduating from high school in 1983, Nikolaus Blome (*1963) spent two years as a temporary soldier in the German army, including 15 months at NATO headquarters SHAPE in Mons, Belgium. He then studied history with a minor in economics and political science at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and at Science Po Paris, graduating with a Magister Artium. He then attended the Henri Nannen School of Journalism in Hamburg until 1991. Already during his studies, Blome did an internship at the Rheinische Post. He then became business editor at the "Tagesspiegel" in Berlin and worked for various regional newspapers in Brussels. From 1997 to 1999, he was head of the foreign policy department at "Die Welt" and then became Brussels bureau chief until 2001. In May 2001, he became deputy editor-in-chief of "Die Welt" in Berlin. He headed the domestic policy and parliamentary office departments, became head of the capital city office of "BILD" in 2006 and finally became its deputy editor-in-chief and head of the business department in 2011. He then moved to the Rudolf Augstein publishing house, where he was a member of the editorial board from 2013 to 2015 and headed the SPIEGEL capital city office. As deputy editor-in-chief of Bild-Zeitung, he was responsible for the newspaper's politics and business section from 2015 to October 2019, before moving to the RTL media group. Nikolaus Blome is an excellent speaker who not only comments on current affairs, but also critically questions and analyses them. He is one of the most intimate connoisseurs of the Berlin political scene and his speeches and lectures provide a knowledgeable look behind the scenes.
